Today involved a school fete

So my contribution for Juneathon Day 13 was walking around my daughter’s school fete for four hours (plus the walk there and home) – and with how tender my foot still feels this was quite a good effort I feel! Especially as my hubby, in-laws and I were being dragging around by a very excited 5 year old and 3 year old! You cannot say that this wasn’t exercise!!!

Plus there was my toes touches, sit and reaches and sit ups/tummy crunches of which there was 13 each! (Why did I think this was a good idea!?! :-P)

So today there was walking

So for Juneathon Day 11 I had planned on going for a run, but as you’ve probably gathered from my previous posts I’m notorious for changing my mind!

Today was an OU study day for me, so when I got a specific task completed I celebrated by going for a walk instead of a run. I wasn’t feeling particularly great – tummy still not happy, think it’s all the worrying about the Blue One, who’s temperature is still high! Plus, it was so warm really didn’t think a run was a great idea, so a walk in the beautiful sunshine it was! 3.68km to be precise!

To the post office… bugger, it was closed …and home again!

I had a target as needed to collect something from the post office, which is a reminder for me of how my running journey started, but in typical ‘me’ style I got there at 3pm and the post office had closed at 2.30pm!!! Doh!!! Never mind – least I got out and it counts for Juneathon – yay!!!

I also then had the walk to collect my Pink One up from school after her gymnastics class. For some unknown reason my right foot/ankle started hurting on my walk there and is still hurting now…!?!  I did nothing specific to set it off, so it’s rather strange! Hoping it’ll ease off by tomorrow!

Did do a good number of steps today too – and I didn’t have my phone on me at all times – so would’ve been more! 😜

Oooo, lots of steps!

Finally I did 11 toe touches, 11 sit and reaches and 11 sit ups/tummy crunches (these are definitely getting harder now!)

Oh and my hubby bought me some flowers to cheer me up – I am very lucky!

Pretty flowers!

It seemed like a good idea!

So for Juneathon Day 10, I still have a poorly little boy, so not much major exercise went on.  When he had a few minutes where he was feeling a little bit more energetic we managed to go out in the garden and play a little bat and ball.

Bat and Ball!

Then when the Blue One got a bit tired and we came in, I for some unknown reason decided it’d be a great idea to sort out all the kids toys!?! Why!?! I have no idea…

How did this all fit in the drawers?

How will I get it all back in?
How will I get it all back in?

I’m sure the amount of toys they have grow when you take them out of the drawers! Eventually though I did get it all tidy again…

Ahhh, that's better!
Ahhh, that’s better!

That was definitely a good 3 hour work out!!! There was also wrestling the first dose (of three) of antibiotics into the stubborn three year old boy – the second two doses he was a very good boy!

Finally – I did 10 toe touches, 10 sit and reaches and 10 sit ups/tummy crunches.

Not much really

Usually I do intervals on a Tuesday but my running buddy Helen is away this week, so I had planned a run for my Juneathon Day 9 offering, but being anxious about my little boys high temperature, gave me a grumbly tum which resulted in me not eating much yesterday evening which in turn meant I felt like I didn’t have much energy to go for a run – it’s a vicious cycle!!! But enough about what I didn’t do and on to what I did do!

Well my Blue One still had an extremely high temperature today (spiked to 39.7 during the night) so I managed to get him an afternoon doctors appointment. Today was an OU study day for me, so the Blue One was with his nanny and grandad D, so come his appointment time I walked to the doctors (with a detour into the Coop) to meet them.  Then the Blue One went back with them so mummy could do some more work! So my effort was two very short walks! Yay me!!!

Walk to the doctors with a stop in the Coop

Walk back from the doctors

I did also do nine toe touches, nine sit and reaches and nine tummy crunches/sit ups!

My Blue One now has antibiotics and following his reaction to the one dose he had this evening I have three work outs ready for me tomorrow!!! Haha!!! Wish me luck (praying some chocolate button bribery will work!!!)

Think tomorrow’s exercise level might not even be as high as today’s – shhh, don’t tell but I think I’ve got a sore throat!!! 😔not good…

Well, back to watching Transformers Rescue Bots with my awake poorly Blue One!

Housework it is then!

So for Juneathon Day 8 my main contribution was an hour of housework – additional effort in the fact I did the vacuuming which included the stairs!

There had been plans to do a kilometre (or possibly a mile) ‘run’ with my kiddies, but a poorly Blue One with a very high temperature (39.3 degrees celcius at its highest) who was a bit tearful (though he did eat his dinner bless him) put paid to that idea!  He kept falling asleep today, which is very unlike him, and he went in the pushchair when we collected his sister from school – which he hasn’t done in months! He had a football session this afternoon where he just sat on my lap for 45 mins – his temp hadn’t been that high when I left the house! Praying a good nights sleep will have him back to his bouncy happy self – though after Calpol, he was more himself and wanted to play… as it was time to get ready for bed!!! Obviously!!!

Left: Falling asleep on the way to football Right: Falling asleep on the way home from football! This is only a 5 minute journey!!!

This is only a 5 minute journey – and he didn’t even play, just sat on my lap for 45 minutes!!!

I’ve turned on the pedometer bit of MapMyWalk – a photo of today below – but I am not entirely convinced by the figures if I am honest!

I also did eight toe touches, eight sit and reaches and eight sit ups/tummy crunches…

Hope everyone else has had a good Juneathon Day 8!

Walking with the Pink One

A very short post tonight about my ‘exercise’ for Juneathon Day 7, need to crack on with some more OU studies, so today I did some short walks to take my daughter to a birthday party and back.  All in all, covering almost 4.5km, but adding all the time up, it over an hour – it’s quite funny comparing the speed of my walk back to collect her (average pace of 9:21mins/km) to length of time it took to walk back home again with the small Pink One in tow (average pace of 17.30mins/km) – but walking is walking and it was a beautiful day and lovely to be going along chatting and holding hands with my Pink One! I probably don’t do it often enough!

It's a beautiful day...

In between walking to and fro for my daughter, I baked some Gluten and Dairy free banana loaves, which are now in the freezer, ready for my daughter’s school fete on Saturday! I did make three – but one of them was a complete disaster for no apparent reason so didn’t make the cut!!!  This did involve a considerable amount of standing up and mixing – so must contribute to my exercise somehow!?!

I also did seven toe touches, seven sit and reaches and seven sit ups/tummy crunches!

Hope everyone else had a good Juneathon Day 7 and a lovely weekend!

Supermarket Sweep

Not the cheesy TV game show of the 1990s but my rather feeble attempt of making my weekly big shop my ‘exercise’ activity for Juneathon day 5!

Pushing a shopping trolley around with my 3 year old Blue One sat in there, plus the weekly shop – it’s quite a work out! Plus the lifting in and out of said small child, and then the carrying in of the bags once home and putting it away – it all adds up! 😛

I also completed five toe touches, five sit and reaches and five sit ups/tummy crunches!

Polar Bear Hugs and Snow!

Today I was lucky enough to run the Cancer Research UK London Winter 10km run! What an amazing experience it was too. Especially as the night before I wasn’t sure I felt well enough to even walk the course let alone run it and getting there looked like it was going to be a mission as the trains were going to Cannon Street and none to Charing Cross. On top of that the Blue One woke up in a right tizzy, waking his sister in the process, and it took some time to calm him down which did not bode well!

The morning of the run I was waiting for the 07:34 train to London Bridge when I got a message that the friend I was going to meet couldn’t make it anymore as she had a bad ankle and she was completely right that it would be silly to run and do any further damage.  So I was having a think as I really don’t like going to these sorts of events on my own when I remembered one of my other friends (My Godparents son) had said he was doing this particular run. I sent him a text, to which I got no reply – so did one better and text his wife! Got a reply that yes he was running and she and their kids were coming too and we could meet at the Warm Up Zone which was near Downing Street. Huge plus point to this meant I didn’t have to try and navigate the Bag Drop or go back after the run to pick my bag up my friends family kindly looked after the bags!!! Yay!!!

Feeling more confident now that I knew I was meeting up with people I enjoyed the rest of my journey to the venue, getting off at London Bridge and then getting the RV1 (which is a Hydrogen Bus) to just by the London Eye and then a pleasant if rather chilly walk across Westminster Bridge. Beautiful blue skies and nice views.  I then waited for my friends – during this time I used the portaloos which weren’t too bad at all and the queues moved quickly. I had my first Polar Bear hug! Then I was getting rather cold standing around so went for a walk to see if there was a shop I could stand in and defrost – my toes and fingers were numb – instead I went down into the tube station – which was exceptionally well timed because within 5 minutes my friend and his family came through the barrier!

Check out that Bin Liner
Check out that Bin Liner

After stripping off my superfluous layers (my goodness it was cold without them) and donning my very fashionable bin liner my friend I made our way to the start.  There we waited for about 10 minutes, doing warm ups, as they needed to space out the waves of runners.  Then with a bleep of a Garmin we were off! I waved to my friend as he was going to be considerably quicker than me.  I settled into a pleasant jog listening to my playlist and enjoying the beautiful London scenery. Slight panic when I looked at my Garmin about five minutes in to see I’d only run 0.5km and I usually do 1km in about seven minutes – then went passed a sign which said 1km and with great relief realised my Garmin was in miles! Phew! Slowed my pace back down!

I plodded along quite happily, being overtaken and personally overtaking the occasional walker. I told myself once I’d run 5km I could have a walk, but I reached 5km and felt good to keep running, then I made it to 7km and felt I would be cheating myself if I walked but my pace was slowing. Though running through the zones of fake snow was quite fun! What didn’t help was that my music stopped with 3km to do. I was concerned the battery had died on my phone, but when I crossed the finish line it still had 50% left – so who knows!?!

I did chat to a nice lady for the last kilometre as were both jokily complaining that there’d been a sign to say ‘chill you’re near the finish’ to then pass the sign that said 9km!

Rounding that final corner and seeing the finish line was overwhelming – I was muttering to myself – “Come on legs you can do it” – unlike my first 10km there was no massive sprint finish, though I did go a bit fast for the last few metres and then finally it was over! I felt rather emotional – I’d done what I set out to do and run the whole 10km and according my Garmin (which I initially forgot to stop) said I’d run 10.10km in 01:09:20 – which was faster than my first 10km, just the icing on the cake! I got some cartons of coconut water, a polar bear hug and much wanted finisher’s medal!

I made it!!!
I made it!!!

A fabulous day with a great atmosphere and really great meeting up with my friend and his family. Met up with them after – felt great getting my layers back on – and he kindly treated me to hot cuppa and chocolate chip cookie, which was very kind of him and much needed! We then went our separate ways and I travelled back to London Bridge and there I got myself a very healthy meal, to replace my lost calories of McChicken Sandwich Meal Deal, – Yum! Yum! Only a ten minute wait for the train and my lovely hubby collected me from the station! Just the perfect end to a lovely day!

Wriggles and Giggles!

I had planned to go for a run this evening, but I would’ve been on my own and it was really cold and really dark and I quite quickly persuaded myself not to go! It might be me, but it seemed darker than normal tonight!

So instead I decided to involve the kids – literally, they were my gym equipment!

I had little people back lifts and little people air lifts – with increasing weights, starting with the Blue One and then finishing with the Pink One.

Back Lifts

Air Lifts

They thought this was hilarious and thoroughly enjoyed mummy lifting them up and down! I have to say it was one of my harder workouts – far tougher then a jog, especially as my gym equipment have minds of their owns! I think I pulled something! ;-P

Lots of fun and laughter was had so that can never be a bad thing.

Probably some Wii Fit for tomorrow – but we’ll see, only three days left to go!

A sense of Déjà Vu

My main exercise today…wait for it…it’ll really surprise you…honestly it will…was 30 minutes doing Wii Fit Plus – shocked aren’t you? I can tell!!!

IMG_1191

As a mum of two young children you’d think I would be used to repeating myself! Haha!!!

Additionally I did play a game with the kids, whereby they’d sit on my lap and I’d drop them through my legs – which I can assure you is weight lifting!!! They found it hysterical with cries of “Do it again mummy” – to the point I had to tell them no more or I really would drop them!

Finally I have had the parental fun of my five year old finding any excuse to come downstairs and not go to sleep – numerous times going back up and down the stairs – which I am sure counts as at least 10 minutes of exercise!!!
