Today was a very easy day, but I think that’s fairly reasonable considering yesterday’s exertions!
There was walking to and from the school for the various drop offs and pick ups.
I did the Morrisons big shop with the Blue One, and he sat in the trolley, so it was quite heavy to push to start with, even more so once the shopping was in there. Lifting the packed bags into the trolley, then into the boot and then taking them in once home! One bag contained 2 x 6 pint milks, 1 x 4 pint milk and a litre of soya milk – I think that was some good heavy lifting!
Finally, I did 30 seconds of jumping jacks with the small people for extra merit!
All being well, I hope to attend Parkrun tomorrow, which is probably a good thing as today ended with a Chinese takeaway, yum yum!!! xxx
So today started rather earlier as I needed to have bloods taken and it was a fasting one – so got to the hospital nice and early, and was back in time to walk the small people to school and nursery.
Starving by the time I got home, after fasting for 18 hours – hubby had got my cereal and cup ready for when I got back.
Then down to some studying – before heading back out to collect the Blue One from nursery, lots of brisk walking as it was chilly out there!
Two little friends over to play for the Boy and a chat for me with their lovely mummy, then more walking to collect the Pink One, and this was the long way round as she had gymnastics tonight! Love that my kids love being active, I hope that it lasts! The sky looked lovely – so took some piccies! Once home, got the kids fed, and I got ready for this week’s Boxercise class but then I needed to wait for the hubby to get home – normally it’s my study day and I am usually child free so I can get out easily, but had to do a switch this week. So typically Southeastern were running S…L…O…W… so the poor hubby got in about 10 mins before my class started, so I literally flew out the door.
Got to my Boxercise class and it was straight into the warm up – there was lots of squats.
Into the gloves and pads, intensive 20 seconds of jabs, then 10 seconds of the person in the pads doing squat jumps while the one in gloves recovered – repeated eight times. Swapping with you partner and repeat. Feel the burn – and the minor punch to my face because my partner and I were chatting a little too much! Haha! Oops!
Shocking selfie between jab intervals and hook intervals!Next set with the pads and gloves, 20 seconds of hooks and 10 seconds of squats with pulses for the one in the pads during recovery, again eight times. In between swapping we did some intervals to get our heart rates back up, which it did, 30 seconds of jumping jacks, 30 seconds of knees ups, 30 seconds of pulsing squats and 30 seconds of sprinting on the spot, repeated three times. Then back to the pads and gloves work.
Then there was the boxer’s stance running backwards, swap legs, then jumping the line and repeat. There was jumping the line and squatting – repeated three times.
Then there was sprinting.
Finally, the cool down… phew… lots of lovely stretching! A good session for Janathon Day 14! 🙂 xxx
Blossom Hill – White Zinfandel – much needed after a hectic day! Cheers! 🙂
Today started with a nice early doctor’s appointment, a lovely walk round there, it was cold but the sun was shining. An early appointment is great as you don’t end up with a delay, but it does mean that by the time you’re finished the pharmacy isn’t open yet! So I have used the pharmacy opening as my goal to go out for another walk and take the long and scenic route round there! I did indeed take the scenic route – a nice 3.74km walk in the sunshine listening to my music, with a short stop to chat with a friend, all good for clearing the head – then once I’d been to the pharmacy back home for more Open University study!
Today was the usual type of morning, which is get the small people to school and nursery and then I come home and study. Then it’s back to collect the Blue One from nursery and then home. Today was lovely as my mum and dad visited, so they came with me to get the Blue One with me which he loved.
Later in the afternoon it was another football session with Coach Alex for the Blue One (he’s active for Janathon too), I love the fact my kids are rather active and love all their sports sessions.
On the way home, we picked the Pink One up from my friend who kindly collected her from school for me. My mum and dad were still at mine, so I sorted the kid’s dinners and was then able to get out early for my run. I managed a pretty steady 6km for Janathon day 12!
Check out that neon yellow – making sure I could be seen!
I was pretty chuffed though to see that each of my last 3km was a smidge faster each kilometre than the previous, not by much, but quicker nonetheless. Certainly ached and could feel it when I get in, but well worth it. What to do tomorrow? 🙂 xxx
So after getting in from church I did an hour of intense house work – where we’d used th RugDoctor on the carpet – I vacuumed it all, thoroughly! I also vacuumed the porch and the stairs! Cleaned some mirrors as well. Definitely broke a sweat!
We then took a trip to Bluewater – the Pink One and Blue One wanted to buy their own Buffs. But we got to Bluewater to find the Buff store was gone!!! Supposedly it was a pop-up shop for Christmas!? None of us were too happy, it was there only last Sunday – I’d hoped to buy a second one…
All sad as we couldn’t buy any Buffs today
We’ll have to have a look online!
When we got home I helped the hubby move the furniture back into the front room, where we’d moved it to clean the carpet!
Finally I did a minute of skipping and some stretching!
Step count lacking due to not having any pockets – so my phone wasn’t on me all day!
So not an overly strenuous Day 10 – but activities were carried out! I really wanted to go for a run – but know my muscles need the recovery time too!
Today was just a really lovely day, despite the rainy weather, for a number of reasons;
It started with taking the Blue One to a taster session of Saturday football that his coach (Coach Alex of AW Football Coaching) invited him to. The Blue One has been doing football sessions since he was about two with Coach Alex, who he adores, starting at a toddlers session at North Cray Children’s Centre – he now attends an improvers session at Falconwood and does another session at Sidcup Youth Centre.
At this session, the Blue One and three or four other ‘little’ boys his age got to see what exciting things they have in store for when they get bigger and they got to play with the ‘big’ boys – who are all of about 4 and 5, but when you’re still only 3 that’s quite a difference!
My Blue One had a fab time and was totally in his element, not nervous or intimidated at all, and he ran around for a full hour! Good going when you’ve only got little legs and it was raining! He chatted to me about it non-stop after he loved it so much, but he now thinks he’s going to be playing football 3 times a week!!! I on the other hand now realise I am a ‘soccer mum’ – oh dear! Must remember not to keep calling out… haha!
What the Blue One loved about football today
The boy and I then popped into the Card Factory after, and if you follow me on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram you may already know this, but the nicest thing happened, whilst queuing to pay for our purchases the Blue One was chatting to me about the Spider-Man balloon he liked and maybe he could have it for his birthday, he was then chatting with the lady behind us in the queue. Just as we finished paying the lady asked if we could wait 5 minutes, and then said to the Boy “the lady in the shop has a surprise for you as you’re such a good helper to your mummy, happy new year” and then she was gone and she’d bought him the Spider-Man balloon – I was overwhelmed and speechless! Bought tears to my eyes, such kindness and I don’t even know her name – but Thank You, she made my boys (and my) day! The kindness of a stranger has definitely restored my faith in humanity!!!
Very pleased with his kind gift!
So on that high we headed home, where the hubby had sorted out the front room as we’ve hired a RugDoctor to clean our carpet, so we did that for the afternoon and then we were all confined to the kitchen and conservatory as the carpet has to dry – which it is doing, slowly!
It was at this time I decided to go for my run! So this is my actual Janathon activity for day 9. I managed a 6km run! I was pretty chuffed with that, because at the 2km mark I thought I may have to stop and walk home as my ankles were really hurting, but I plodded on and it did ease, it’s annoying as the rest of my legs felt strong and my breathing was good and for once my brain wasn’t telling me I couldn’t do it – so I am proud that I kept going. My legs, which were still feeling achy and a bit stiff after my Boxercise class, now actually feel much looser and better after my run which is great – and I made sure I stretched properly after my run, especially my ankles.
My Pink One demonstrating perfect leg stretches – how straight is that leg!? She also rather likes mummy’s Buff! Some sinister after run selfies!
On a little side note, I also got an email telling me one of my Redbubble images had been sold as a greetings card – I made all of 15p – but someone bought one of my images, it’s so exciting, I am very happy! Here’s a link to the image and a link to my previous post about my Redbubble.
After putting a lot of effort into all my activities for Janathon Week 1, I thought it best to have a slight rest day and let my muscles have some respite and after my fab Boxercise class yesterday I was very aware of my muscles, even ones I didn’t know I had!!!
So there was a gentle walk with the hubby to collect the Blue One from nursery, then with the Blue One and hubby we walked to the Oval so I could collect my watches from the repair shop and then a meander back home, all at Blue One pace. Except for the one bit of weight lifting where I had to carry the Blue One – oh how my arm muscles protested!!! haha!!! Back home I did 5 squats with a Blue One lift and then 5 straight squats.
I also did 10 tricep dips – which we’d covered in the Boxercise class, but I forgot to mention in my post, I really could feel all the muscles I worked yesterday! Ouch! But well worth the pain!
Super cute, my Blue One wanted to try some tricep dips too! Awww!
Finally, there was the Morrisons big shop, which with two kids in tow is definitely a work out in itself! My brain has been worked today too doing some Open University maths work! But I did get to eat some chips – hopefully deserved after the weeks activities! Tired now and could do with a full body massage… 😛 xxx
Today was one of those annoyingly frustrating days, for a number of reasons:
You realise you forgot that you had a 30 day free trial and it had finished and suddenly you’ve spent £16
The part of the module you’re doing, the book you’ve been supplied with has numerous errors and you have to cross check it with the errata list.
Your phone bill, for some reason unknown to man, is double what it usually is! (Did managed to get some credit back from Three, so not all bad)
You hear a clunking at your front door, so run to see a ‘You weren’t home’ thingy had been posted through, so opened the door and say to the delivery person, who’s walking back to their van ‘did you ring the doorbell?’ to which he replies ‘I tried’ – apparently! He’d thrown my parcel over the gate – ‘It’ll be fine, it’s completely sealed’- but still, it was torrential rain, so not overly impressed! (It’s a Joe Browns parcel, yay! – I have a new top, which I am not trying on until tomorrow, because the day I’ve had, it probably won’t fit!)
Plus I was studying all day… Acronyms were doing my head in! Study Evidence
So I was extremely happy my Boxercise class was back on this evening so that I could vent some of this frustration!
All the details if you’d like to come and join in and you are in the Sidcup/Bexley area!
More information can be found on Foxlee Fitness Facebook page all run by the lovely Michelle Fox! Come on, you know you want to!
Me and Michelle – after Boxerise!Tonight’s session was brutal! There was:
Glove and pads work – jabs followed by squat jumps – intervals of 5, 10, 15 and 20
Then hooks followed by jumping jacks – intervals of 5, 10, 15 and 20
Then medium height uppers followed by jumps into a squat and touch the floor – 20 of each
Finally for this part lower height uppers followed by squats with a double jump
Then we had a set of skipping, squats into a lift with 1kg weights and step ups onto a bench – first time each interval was 30 seconds and then repeated for 1 minute each
A new one for this evening, some floor work with a chair, lifting legs above, below and to the side (there’s some rather unflattering videos of me at the end of this post…)
Then some additional floor work – push ups, push up position and twist and push up to plank position (I struggled on this one!)
Then time to cool down and stretch.
All done in the Buff! haha!
That was one intense work out but so what I needed, awesome class and a good end to week one of Janathon!
Week One Round Up
Kilometres Run: 16.48
Kilometres Walked: 26.27
Steps Taken: 71,166
Leg Lifts: 20
Boxercise Class: 1
Seriously very unflattering videos – what I do to myself for Janathon!!! You have been warned!!!
Today was a walk, but quite a brisk and efficient walk and I’ve managed to cause a blister on the back of my right foot – hence the ouch!
I had an appointment at the hospital so used that as my goal for walking – pretty much the same route as my run yesterday, but just a smidge further! Weather had been quite rainy this morning so prepared myself for all weathers!
Oh look – is that the Buff again!?!
Walk there and home – completing 8km!
My hubby was still off work this week so I’ve utilised him being here to get quite a few kilometres in – next week might not be so active, but it may see the reintroduction of the Wii!
I think I’ve exhausted myself this week – feel completely drained this evening and rather achy! All this exercise can’t be good for me! haha!
Tomorrow will be a change from running or walking, all being well! 😊xxx
So today I managed to go for a good run, but not exactly the most exciting thing to blog about, so I am going to use it to review my lovely new Buff. I think I may have mentioned it once or twice… possibly more…
I’ll start with a bit about my actual Janathon exercise, as I said yesterday, I like having a specific goal, so today I needed to go to Morrisons to ask about hiring a RugDoctor – we’re desperate to give our carpet a thorough clean. Morrisons is about 3km away, so made it a good middle point. So I set off, with minimal procrastination, as I did do some Open University study this morning as well.
The run there was a little tough as there is a bit of an incline – but this did mean coming home I would have some downhill which was a nice thought! I made it to Morrisons and went in and ask my questions.
See – it’s Morrisons!
The run home was very pleasant, running downhill is much nicer, and the sun was shining brightly, did my usual of wearing one too many layers, but all in all I was pretty comfortable!
And back home again!
A good 6.48km covered!
Buff Review
***I bought the Buff myself, and all opinions are my own – not a sponsored post***
I may have previously mentioned (in my last two posts) that I am now the proud owner of a Buff!
So what is a Buff? According to their own site a Buff is;
Multifunctional Headwear
Apparently, it can be worn in 13 different ways! If you want to learn more about the history of the Buff you can find the information here!
I purchased mine from the Buff store in Bluewater and it cost me £15, but they are available from other distributors such as Amazon. Going to the store was quite nice when buying my first one as I could see what they were actually like and feel the material etc.
It’s quite amazing what looks like a simple tube of material can be so useful, comfortable, versatile and make someone feel quite so happy!!! I think I’m a bit obsessed!
My New Buff!
I get quite warm when I am running, so generally run in a baseball cap rather than a beanie hat (the peak is useful for keeping the sun and rain out of my eyes without me overheating), but in the winter months I absolutely hate my ears getting cold, when they get too cold it actually makes me feel sick, this is why I bought a Buff (as recommended by my running buddy Helen).
Absolutely hits the spot, I wore it today for my run as it was a little chilly, as a headband going over my ears, and I was still able to wear my beloved baseball cap (bit of a lucky charm) over the top of it. The Buff was super comfy, didn’t make me feel too hot, but kept my ears nice and cosy and my headphones in!
Fits beautifully with my baseball cap!
I will definitely be purchasing more of them and am also considering them for the kids as they like mine and I think will be easier to wear than a normal scarf, we will see! I personally have my eye on a Star Wars one, but I also like the super colourful ones!
As a laugh I thought I’d attempt the ‘How To Wear’ that’s on the packaging!
The Cap – though it looks like I’m wearing a swimming capNeckerchief- think this looks quite smartBlind Chicken (why?), Wristband and SaharianeMy personal favourite – HeadbandThe MaskThe one that makes me laugh – The Pirate!
There is also a hairband option – but my hair is too short to demonstrate that!
Scientific bit – the material provides thermal insulation and takes moisture away from the skin. This Buff has Polygiene Stay Fresh – Permanent Odour Control too!
I would highly recommend them – great just to wear walking as well as running! 🙂 xxx
