Oodles of Oomi Noodles!

Recently I have been really trying to increase the amount of protein in my diet, reading up on protein powders (I’ll admit I find it all rather confusing) and protein bars as I really want to gain muscle and definition with my workouts, so when Oomi offered me the chance to try their protein-packed noodles I jumped at the chance, especially as they are also gluten free! I’d much rather obtain my protein through my meals than using protein powder – but this is just a personal preference and doesn’t mean I won’t use protein powder in the future – but I digress.

I have to say I was a little apprehensive though when I realised the source of the protein is from white fish.  I don’t know why, as I really like white fish – I suppose it just seemed unusual to me, the idea of noodles made with fish protein, I don’t know if I expected them to feel squishy like fish or to smell like fish!?

Anyway, my noodles were promptly delivered, I really like the packaging – fun and friendly! I am a bit of a nerd when it comes to logos and fonts, and I totally love those that Oomi use. I also love the little touch of the chopsticks thrown in – though must admit completely forgot to use them when I ate my meal – which is a pity as I’m pretty good with chopsticks!

So now was the tough decision – which of our preferred noodle dishes to try them in?  We settled on the Healthy Food Guide’s Singapore noodles – swapping out the vermicelli rice noodles for the Oomi Noodles!

So my wonderful Hubby cooked up our meal.  I in the meantime have to admit I stuck my nose in the noodles and the containers to see if I could smell fish – and I mean right into the container (I have no shame) and I think I got the tiniest hint of a tint, but truthfully this could just have been psychological as I knew there was fish protein in them. They are by no means overpoweringly fishy smelling and they do have the same consistency and look of regular egg noodles!

Cooking up nicely!

The Hubby did an awesome job as always (I’m so lucky he’s a good cook and also enjoys cooking) and dinner was served…

This meal certainly packed a protein punch – with egg, meat and the fabulous Oomi Noodles and it tasted great. I still had to get my head round the whole fish protein – but they truly didn’t taste or have any different texture to normal egg noodles – but offer you more, with 11g of protein per 100g of noodles, 75% fewer carbohydrates than normal egg noodles and they are gluten free – which is a yay from me!

Yum! Yum! Yum!

Oomi Noodles come in packs of two – individually sealed, so each portion is 115g.  They are ready cooked, so great for quick and easy meals on the go, as they can be eaten hot or cold. They are currently available (and on offer) from Tesco for £2.00.

I have to say, in a blind taste test I truly believe I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between Oomi Noodles and regular egg noodles and I would definitely eat these noodles again in the future.

  1. Actually after reading this I may give them a go! I’m the same, preferring to get my protein from food/meals rather than supplements. It is a little strange the thought of the protein coming from fish! Not heard of that before.

    • They are definitely worth a try, just have to pretend they’re just ordinary egg noodles. They don’t taste or smell fishy – but I know exactly want you mean, trying to get your head round the idea of fish protein! If you do try them – let me know what you think! 😁x

  2. Great post, Geraldine! I find it so satisfying to be able to give my celiac friends a noodle option that isn’t shirataki noodles. While they are nice, they don’t come close to the texture of egg noodles or pasta. We are so pleased you liked oomi noodles. ❤

    • Thank you! They’re great – I’m so happy I tried them! It’s lovely having alternative gluten free options – having the protein boost is an added bonus! Really like oomi noodles! 😁❤️x
