A Conversation with Alex Crockford

So it’s been over two years since I did my first interview with the ever lovely Alex Crockford – and it very much was an interview (see at the bottom for the originl interview) and then Alex putting me through a bit of a workout, roll forward to 2019…

I’ve subsequently met up with Alex a few times over the last two years from his meet up in Hyde Park, as part of Team Fitbit at last year’s Adidas City Run in Shoreditch, and being at the amazing fitness weekend he ran in January 2018 amongst other things – so Alex and I arranged to meet up again and have a proper catch-up covering all manner of things;Read More »

2018 Best Nine

Firstly Happy New Year – Hope you had fun bringing in the new year! The Hubby and I saw the new year in watching Deadpool 2 and then the fireworks on TV! In bed by 12:20am! Rock ‘n’ roll!

So, like a lot of my blog posts, this started life as an Instagram caption but got rather lengthy so it graduated to being my first (unplanned) blog post of 2019! Woo!

I downloaded my Best Nine Instagram posts of 2018, ready for that to be my first Instagram post of 2019 (it’ll now be the second instead) wishing everyone Happy New Year but what struck me was that the posts that did the best were those that were open, honest, communication from me – either sharing a truth about me and my anxiety, celebrating a success or just showing gratitude!

adidas City Runs – Shoreditch 10k

I was extremely lucky to have been invited to run the adidas City Runs Shoreditch 10k as part of #TeamFitbit and thoroughly looked forward to it.

In the end, I was exceptionally grateful that I could actually run because a couple of weeks before the event I took a nasty tumble whilst out running which resulted with me unable to run for nearly two weeks!!! That was no fun for anyone, haha! Fortunately, I healed quite quickly and the week before I managed to get in a couple of runs – a few being 10km and above. The enforced rest may have actually been a good thing, not that I like to admit that!

So, I had everything prepared for the run – remembering my headphones this time, as forgot them for my last 10k run event and it wasn’t good!

Crockfit Fitness Weekend – Why did I do it?

It may surprise you, or not, but at this point in my life, nearly mid-30s I’d never been anywhere really on my own – I’ve always gone away with family, friends or my Hubby (and obviously in more recent years the kiddies).

So when, in about Sept 2017, I saw Alex Crockford advertising a fitness weekend it really caught my eye as something I would love to be involved in and attend. I spoke to the Hubby and agreed it would be both my Birthday and Christmas present for that year.  So I booked on. I thought it would fit perfectly with the way life is going with regards to my new career path and what I also blog about. It would be amazing to meet like-minded people, gain knowledge from Alex and also learn more about food (which came from the talented Ceri Jones of Natural Kitchen Adventures – watch out for a separate post on that!) and just spend a weekend talking and doing what I love – which is keeping fit and eating well.Read More »

Trying my Hand at Hockey

***This is not a sponsored post – though I was appreciative of coming home with my own hockey stick, ball, shin pads and bag which was lovely and unexpected. All opinions are my own***

So on Tuesday 7th, November England Hockey announced that Vitality UK is to be their official Wellness Partner,  and I was extremely lucky to be part of the launch event along with the lovely Lucy and terrific Tess, which took place at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park!

Lucy, Tess & Me!

I had never played hockey or even held a proper hockey stick until this event, as my secondary school was a lacrosse school, so this was exciting and terrifying in equal measure.

Not only were we getting to learn some hockey skills, they were being taught to us by members of the Women and Men’s England Hockey teams – so not much pressure there then! Lol! But it was just amazing and so much fun, and I was just so relieved that I did manage to hit the ball. We got to meet Laura Unsworth, Giselle Ansley, Sarah Haycroft, Phil Roper, Adam Dixon and Henry Weir.

It was such a pleasure to meet them all and learn some of the basic skills, even though my challenge for #WomenInSport campaign is going to be football, it was a brilliant opportunity to experience another team sport and to see what else is out there, even though it was something I had never done before.

What Suits You

This did start as an Instagram comment, but I realised it was a bit epic, and I feel it’s an important message, so thought why not get it out there as a blog post, as I’ve not written one for a while!

Recently, I’ve been feeling amongst the whole fitness and health universe there’s a lot of ‘if you don’t do it our way‘ you’re doing it wrong or ‘if you don’t do it like this‘ then you’re wrong – instead of congratulating and encouraging those who wish to change their lifestyle to a healthier more active one and sharing that there ISN’T just ONE specific way to do it!

That it will take time and your best bet is to do things gradually. You’ll be more likely to maintain the healthier lifestyle and you’re less likely to fall off the wagon if your changes are manageable. For instance, when I started to change how I was eating I didn’t try and change everything at once, I initially started with breakfast and slowly incorporated making my other meals healthier over a period of time.

Question Time with Alex Crockford

Super lucky recently to have been able to interview one of my fitness heroes Alex Crockford, creator of Crockfit! I was super excited, but don’t tell him that! I have followed Alex’s homefit plans, which have been amazing, and I wholeheartedly recommend them – great support and advice, and a really lovely community too.

So on 23rd March I met up with Alex in Hyde Park, so watch now to find out;

Question Time with Coach Alex

You may have already gathered that we’re quite an active family.  I love my Fitness Blender Workouts, Alex Crockford Plans, PowerWave, Boxercise and jogging (not to mention walking!).  The Hubby plays football. The Pink One adores her gymnastics and trampolining.  Both the kiddies attend swimming lessons. Then the Blue One, you might have noticed has a slight penchant for football, and I’d go as far to say he’s pretty good.

The Blue One has been attending sessions since he was only 2 years old and 3 years on, the passion for football is continuously growing.  So I’ve managed to grab a fifteen-minute chat with his football coach, Alex Warner – of AW Football Coaching.  It literally is fifteen minutes (ok, ok, it’s closer to 17.5 minutes , but I’m sure you’ll forgive us the additional 2.5 minutes ;-P), with coaching upwards of 250 children a week, Coach Alex (as the kids and the parents know him) is an exceptionally busy man…
