Anything can be exercise… It can…!!!

Going out this evening so today I’m making all my everyday activities into exercise so we’ve had the walk to school including the book bag dash! This being, we’d been walking for 2 minutes when I asked the Pink One “Where’s your book bag?” and was met with “Oh no, I forgot it!” in a dramatic voice for good measure – fortunately one of the other school mummy’s was walking passed and watched them when I legged it back home in double quick time to collect the book bag!

Next was the Big Shop – which was obviously double exercise as I had the Blue One in tow! This included some weight lifting in the shape of lifting my son into and out of the trolley numerous times and then carrying a bag that had 3x2litre bottles of milk, 2x875ml Persil small and mighty bottles and 1X1.9litre bottle of fabric conditioner!!! Definitely heavy!!! Hardcore shopping!!! Haha!!!

Then there was the walk to collect the Pink One from school, which was a longer walk then usual as I took a slightly different route as I walked with friends whose kids are at a different school!

See – I can make exercise out of anything!!! 😉 Happy Janathon Day 23 everyone!!!

I kept dozing off…

Another evenings run foiled by a poorly small person! I got in late from last day at work (more about this in another blog) and when the Blue One arrived back he was in a righty tizzy to the point he gagged and was a little sick, so he went off up to bed with daddy keeping him company until he settled and after requesting some Calpol (or should I say demanding) he was safely tucked up in bed, but I thought it best not to go for a run.

I did 30 mins on Wii Fit Plus! What would I have done for Janathon without the Wii!?! Got quite a few high scores!!!

Short and sweet and shared a day late as I fell asleep!!!

Whew, fitted in some exercise, just!!!

Well what a hectic day that was!

Up and out by 7.20am to drop the small people at the childminders – it was their last day there as things are changing!

Then on to work finishing there at 5pm – meant to finish at 3.30pm, but it’s my last two days there and then I’m taking on the worst paid job in the world, terrible hours and no sick pay or pension scheme – I’m going to be a stay at home mum for a while!!! Hehee!!! Best job in the world!!! Also going to be doing an Open University degrees in Computing & IT which I’m hoping will keep me employable when I return to work, anyway I’ve got sidetracked!

Straight from work to collect the kiddies again, home with them – put a programme on they like whilst I grab a quick shower! Hubby gets in – I head out round 7pm to attend choir! Finish choir at 9pm – head home with a quick pit stop at my mum and dads to pick some bits up I’d left there.

Got in and baked some goodies to take in for my last day at work – made chocolate brownies and oat cookies! The oats cookies are wheat free, contain no egg and can be dairy free – though I was a bit naughty and swapped the raisins for chocolate chips!!! They’re rather tasty I have to say and no additionally added sugar! The sweetness comes from the apple sauce and the banana! Highly recommend!

2015/01/img_1632.jpg

While the cookies cooked I managed to fit in 25 mins on the Wii Fit! Yay! I was scared I’d have to say I’d slacked off but fortunately this isn’t the case! Got it in just before midnight so counts for day 21!!!

Now for some sleep….

😊😴️xxx

Today I did it for the first time…

That is I ran my first timed 10km race (and my first solid – with the teeniest bit of walking – 10km ever to be honest!)

What an amazing experience I had! This will be the pinnacle of my Janathon efforts. It took place at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park (QEOP) which initially made me feel disconcerted as when I’d registered it was meant to have been at Hyde Park – but obviously had a venue change!

Firstly I have to thank Deputy Helen and Jo for their unwavering support as I was feeling exceptionally nervous and not at all confident in my abilities and they told me I’d do great! They themselves did superb efforts Helen getting a course PB – see Helen’s Blog, and Jo got a 10km race PB – check out Jo’s Blog

So the day started nice and early, leaving the house at 6.30am, with a 2.34km walk to the station, a good warm up, where I met up with Helen – what should’ve been a straight forward journey of a train to Lewisham and then the DLR to Stratford, ended up being a case of DLR musical chairs with a change at Canary Wharf and then the next train terminated at Bow Church and we had to get a bus the final part of the journey but finally we were at the venue with plenty of time to spare and were able to pick up our packs and go and get a hot beverage!

Attached my race number with my Event Clips – check out my friend’s blog where he reviewed various methods of attaching your race bibs! I love my Event Clips – so thanks to Graham for that blog!

Having now met up with Jo we headed back to where the race was starting to do our bag drop with all our unnecessary clothing – fortunately we weren’t waiting in the cold for too long before it all started – took us by surprise to be honest as there was no noise or starting pistol just suddenly the people in front of us started moving quicker!

I made sure I ignored all those around me and didn’t get caught up in the initial rush of the race starting and completely out pacing myself, I kept pretty much at the back and took this very gently as  I really had no clue what I was facing, what I was doing or how I would cope. For the first time in ages I listened to music whilst I was running which was pleasant – though I couldn’t find my usual headphones so had my apple ones which did occasionally annoy me by falling out of my ears and by the third lap my hands were so numb I could barely feel to put them back in, but this was just a minor thing!

Managed to do the first lap with no walking, second lap I was still managing to keep my breathing even but the course was quite undulating with numerous inclines, so I gave myself permission to walk for a short amount of time up one of these inclines and then started running again. I think I did one more short walk on lap two but can’t remember where exactly. At the start of Lap 3 I still felt relatively good, though was saying the odd mantra of “I can do this” and “one lap to go” etc, so anyone near me I apologise if I seemed like a mumbling mad women!!!

On the third lap I decided to walk in the same place as I had on the second and when I started running again I knew I couldn’t do anymore walks otherwise I wouldn’t get running again as my glutes were suddenly feeling very tight.  This final lap felt tougher, to me it seemed the wind picked up and it felt colder and though my legs felt reasonable my arms were aching! I kept plodding on, my mood picked up when I heard the Baywatch theme tune on my playlist (Thank you hubby).

Suddenly the end was in sight, it was near and yet so far, people were now starting to speed up and go past me as we were nearing the finish, but I kept with my slow and steady pace as I wanted to hold on to the last of my energy for that final burst on the home straight and that is exactly what I managed to do. Coming down the last straight a lady I had managed to overtake slightly earlier I could hear coming up behind me and starting to go past me when I heard the marshal on his megaphone “I want a sprint finish ladies” and I knew I still had some reserve energy and sprint is exactly what  I did and suddenly I was over the finish line and I had done it – I couldn’t stand up straight, I was shaking – but I had completed my first 10km!!! Whoop! Whoop!

How to celebrate? Go and have some cake and hot beverages with my two lovely friends! Obviously it was the only thing to do!!!

Time to eat cake...Mmmmm!!!
Time to eat cake…Mmmmm!!!

I completed my first 10km timed race in what I think is a respectable 01:10:38 and I am pretty chuffed with that! Some room for improvement so I better sign up for my next one, think that’ll be the Bupa London 10km in May… now where’s that website

Short Walk!

So today I’ll keep it short and sweet – I’ve got an early start in the morning and did I mention before it’s my first timed 10km race!?! I took it easy and went on a beautiful, crisp and cold afternoon walk with my Mum, which was just lovely as it was only the two of us so we could talk! Really relaxing!!!

Now to rest ready for the morning…!!!

yet again fell asleep before posting…😴

Today I cleaned up…

And I mean that in the literal sense!

Equipment of Choice!
Equipment of Choice!

My exercise of choice this morning was vacuuming – which included the more strenuous section of doing the stairs! Got quite warm – though this may have also been due to choice of chunky jumper I was wearing!

I even found a site where you can calculate the approximate about of calories you burn doing various exercises and you can even look up household activities including vacuuming!

Calorie Lab

Though personally I’m not really into calorie calculating – I want to do exercise to become fit (and it would be nice to be toned) and not for weight loss purposes as I am already borderline underweight! I attribute this to IBS and a whole host of food intolerances – I’m going on a dietician led elimination diet in February and I can’t wait as it’s getting so frustrating, it’s horrible to be frightened of food and you can’t complain about being underweight!!! Which I can assure you is rather stressful. This week though I’ve limited my wheat/gluten and dairy intake and increased my water intake to see if that helps as I really don’t want to suffer runners tum on my 10km run on Sunday!!!

Found this site which I feel actually provided some great advice on how to deal with the annoying side affect of running and why it happens! Very useful – worth a look On runnersworld.com

Obviously Runner’s Tum might not be something you want to mention you suffer with – but if you do please share what you do to try and prevent it happening or what has worked for you! I’d appreciate it and I’m sure others would too!!!

Though I suffer with anxiety as well and that doesn’t help either – as you can see from the site that in itself can be a trigger!!! Haha!!! I sound a bundle of fun don’t I!?!

Sorry – went off on a tangent there!

I also managed a bit of time on Wii Fit Plus – definitely made it a bit more interesting to try and do with the Blue One up and around, my own mini personal trainer except he kept requesting rather loudly that he wanted to do bowling and kept generally getting under my feet! He was good really, just happier once he was having his game of bowling!

Finally I went on a very pleasant walk with my mum, dad and the Blue One! We did about 2.16km/1.3 miles in half an hour – not bad with a not quite 3 year old walking too! Such beautiful weather when we walked too, it was lovely, really lifts the spirits! So quite an active day!

Lovely Walk!
Lovely Walk!

Gathering my strength

As I’m sure I’ve mention a few hundred times, I’ve got my first 10km timed race coming up this Sunday, so as my leg is still not feeling right I thought I’d take it a bit easier today! So my Janathon Day 15 contributions are the ‘Morrison’s Big Shop’ and the ‘Clean Laundry – Fold and Put Away’.

With the shopping – this did involve pushing a heavy trolley, carry heavy bags, loading them into the car, unloading them when I got home and then squatting and stretching to put all the items away!!!

Big Shop!
Big Shop!

I had a copious amount of clean washing I’d let gather on the dining room table – so there was the sorting into the kids clothes and our clothes piles, the three trips up and down the stairs and then again the squatting and stretching to put it all away! I did also have to put one of my Pink One’s drawers back together when the from decided it’d just fall off when I pulled it open (don’t know my own strength).

No Wii tonight – shocking I know, and I really missed it instead we decided to sit down and watch a film, once all the clothes were away, and I felt really sad as they killed off a main character and this was after watching one of our favourite American series start a new series yesterday and they killed off a main character in the first episode, which was entirely unnecessary – hopefully I’ll have cheerful news tomorrow of some more exercise!!!

Skipping Day 12 of Janathon

Now truthfully, how many of you thought I’d slacked off for a day!?! Hmmmm… tsk tsk!!!

Well I was meant to be going for a run but this has been rescheduled for Wednesday so what did I actually do? I found my skipping rope. Now as a kid I’d spend loads of time just skipping, doing various ‘tricks’ and rhymes – but I can honestly say the 10 minutes I did of skipping today hurt! My heart beat was raised and I broke out in a sweat.

It was also humorous as I skipped inside due to the lovely seasonal weather of rain so I had to shorten the rope so it didn’t hit the ceiling and so this in turn meant I had to skip with my head tilted forward so I didn’t catch myself – which I can assure you stings as the ‘rope’ is made of plastic and if it whips you – you know about it!!!

I also spent some time on Wii Fit plus – ensuring I made 30mins worth of exercise!

Aerobic Exercise
Super Hula Hooping – serious fail on that one!

Well all in all not a bad evening of exercise! Think the skipping will help for my prep for Sunday! I’m also trying to make sure I drink plenty of water and I’m cutting down on the amount of wheat and dairy I’m eating this week – well at least I’m trying too! 😜

Day 10 and a Wii bit more exercise!

After a rather trying night with chicken pox boy (he didn’t go to sleep until about 3am – after a lot of wailing) I wasn’t very motivated to do much exercise, so I timed my manic walk up and down Bexleyheath High Steet.

I finished an appointment I had at 11am and had 56 minutes of time left to visit all the shops I needed – The Card Factory, Boots and H&M!

I was quite surprised with the distance that I covered!

Walking up and down Bexleyheath High Street!
Walking up and down Bexleyheath High Street!

I also recorded the amount of distance I covered walking around the supermarket – in this case Morrisons, doing ‘the Big Shop’ – but I unfortunately forgot to stop MapMyWalk running when I finished, and so it includes my drive home! Doh!!!

It's not call 'The Big Shop' for nothing!
It’s not call ‘The Big Shop’ for nothing!

Needs to be less 3.22km and 10 minutes off the time – so again, I covered 1.43km just doing the weekly shop, so not at a great pace, but still further than you’d think! (Well further than I was expecting)

Who knew
Who knew

Then for good measure I did some exercise on the Wii! So Wii Fit Plus !

Aerobic Exercise
Super Hula Hoop
Advance Step Aerobics (I’m not very good at that! My timing is appalling!)
Rhythmic Boxing Advanced

Balance Games
Ski Jump
Penguin Jump

Feeling rather tired now, can’t imagine why!?! Haha!!!

Until Day 11 – cheerio!!!

Gentle jog – but it all counts!

So after a rather stressful day stuck in doors with the blue one who is suffering from the chicken pox (so grateful to the two friends who visited who kept me from completely losing it) I managed to get out for a run with Deputy Helen! Yay!!! I managed to do some decent exercise for Janathon Day 9!

Awwwww, bless him...
Awwwww, bless him…

It was a rather gentle jog as I was wearing far too many layers for what was an unusually mild evening in January! 14 degrees Celsius – what was that all about!?!

A run of...
A run of…
...of two halves!!!
…two halves!!!

absolutely shattered!!!
