Janathon Day 1 – it starts with a double!

A double Parkrun that is!

After a fairly gentle night in for our New Years celebrations (my hubby and I are hard core, comfy clothes on, sat on the sofa watching a film!), I’d agreed to go with Helen to Greenwich Parkrun followed by Bexley Parkrun. All these running ideas always seem great when you’re planning them – but then the morning dawns and you suddenly realise that you have to go through with it!!! 😛

So on the 1st January 2016 I left the house, to have to come back in to grab some bits to defrost my car! Not had to clear frost in ages…
Frozen
It was really cold, but I collected Helen, and soon it was 9am and we were in Avery Hill Park and after the briefing we were off. It was cold and slippery, I ran the first two laps with numb toes and taking it carefully on the mud, but I was happy to complete my 5km in a time of 00:34:48 – which is faster than my Parkrun on the 1st Jan 2015. Though towards the end my ankles were hurting, which made me think I would probably have to walk my next Parkrun.

Greenwich Parkrun
Then we were back in the car (heating on full to warm up) and on to Danson Park for our second Parkrun.  We were there a little early, so stayed in the warm of the car and munched a few jelly babies – Helen had the last green one, I was disappointed, I wasn’t…honest… 😛 And I didn’t throw mud at her, well not intentionally!

Then we got out of the car and made our way to the start of the course, as we walked past the lake, I very helpfully told Helen that water is at it’s most dense at 4 degrees Celsius (information from my dad)  – if she wins a quiz with that answer you know where she learnt it from!!!

After a quick briefing we were off again.  There was a lot of people at this Parkrun (a lot doing the double) and so there was a bit of a bottle neck and it was slow going over the first kilometre, but my ankles felt ok which was a relief.

I kept with Helen most of the way, but there was bit towards the end when she was able to go ahead and I got slowed down by a little girl on her scooter! I was beginning to feel a little disheartened, but then I saw a robin, and there’s just something about a robin, makes me feel someone is watching over me and gave me the ability to go on and get to the end in 00:35:11 – which I was rather chuffed with after already doing one 5km!

So, it was done! 10km! I feel a real sense of accomplishment! Not bad for the first day of the year and the first day of Janathon!

After dropping Helen off, it was home for a very wonderful hot shower there’s nothing more amazing after running – no photos for that, so here’s a screenshot of my step count for the day!!!

Happy New Year to you all!
Not sure rest of Janathon will be as energetic, but we’ll see… until tomorrow! 🙂 x

Traditionally Christmas!

I am the biggest kid – I love Christmas, with it’s true meaning of the birth of Jesus, but also all the magic and joy it brings, especially now that I have children of my own, and they are both at that age where Christmas is truly wondrous to them.

This got me to thinking about all the little traditions that my hubby and I have built  up over the years and truly mean Christmas to us and thought I would share some of them with you…

1. Decorations
Obviously the majority of us put up Christmas decorations, but since moving into our own home we aim to put them up on the 1st December.  Sometime it’s a bit earlier now, since having the children, we put them up on the weekend before the 1st so that the children can enjoy them for a couple of days before having to be at school or nursery.
The only thing is that I am not very good at sharing my Christmas decorations with my children, my tree has to be a specific way (ok, ok, I am a control freak), so they magically go up over night and are there for the children to smile at in awe in the morning!

2. Christmas Windows
This tradition has be going for years! This started with my brothers (possibly before I would born) – my dad tried to do spray snow and it went rather wrong, so my brothers took over by literally drawing Christmas pictures on the windows with a marker pens and painting with poster paint.
As my brothers got older my sister and I took over – my sister does all the drawings, she’s very talented. We thought we’d stop when we left home – but this hasn’t been the case. Since I’ve moved I have booked a day with my sister each year so that she can draw my windows and I can paint them! It’s good fun…

3. Films
My husband and I have built up quite a collection over the years, which include:
All three Santa Clause movies (firm favourite in our household)
Miracle on 34th Street (brings a tear to my eye every year)
Die Hard (yippee kay yay…)
A Christmas Carol (with Patrick Stewart)
A Muppet Christmas Carol (there goes Mr Humbug, there goes Mr Grim…)
Love Actually (Love actually is all around)
Trading Places (Mortimer, your brother’s ill…)
Home Alone (We forgot Kevin)
Polar Express (we used to watch this every year at the iMax prior to having kids, now we all sit on the sofa under a blanket and watch it together as a family – much loved in our home!)

Due to the joy of Sky+ we’ve also watched
Santa Paws 2
The Grinch who Stole Christmas (much better than I was expecting)
Naughty or Nice
Elf (thought it was ok but it’s not a favourite)
Arthur Christmas (Again, ok)
Saving Santa (It’s a good one)
A Christmas Princess
Many a soppy lovey dovey Christmas, “oh my gosh they have to get together” film
I’m sure that there have been many more!!!

I haven’t seen It’s A Wonderful Life – I really must watch this! It’s a Christmas resolution!

4. Christmas countdown
This has been a new one for 2015. My daughter was bought a Christmas Countdown and I have been doing a festive photograph each day and sharing on my Instagram!

5. Christmas Eve Mass
I am a practicing Catholic and so I go to mass every (ok, most) Sundays, but Christmas Eve Mass has become a lovely tradition since having the kids. Before the kids, and when I was bit older, I used to go to midnight mass with my parents, but now we’re at our parish, which is St Lawrences on Sidcup High Street, they do a lovely family mass on Christmas Eve where the kids can go in fancy dress, as an Angel, Shepherd, Wiseman, Mary, Joseph or even a Sheep if they want to. It’s really lovely and a great start to the Christmas celebrations.

6. Christmas jumpers
This is something I started in 2013 and not something my Hubby was initially particularly keen on! He kindly humoured me and wore what I would describe as a subtle Christmas jumper that first year – while mine and the kids were good and cheesy.
Christmas 2014 he joined in quite happily, and will again this year, so he’s now the proud owner of a jumper with a giant reindeer on the front and bells.  The kids are always happily decked out in festive jumpers – and my son usually has a festive shirt too as he gets rather hot in a jumper!
This year I am little too excited that I will be wearing something a little different –  a Christmas swing dress which I got from my much loved Joe Browns

7. Father Christmas & Pizza Express
Since our Pink One has been old enough to understand the concept of Father Christmas we book to see Father Christmas at Ruxley Garden Centre.  It’s just so much fun, though I must admit the actual reality doesn’t always measure up to my rose tinted idea of how the magical event should happen! There was one year when we took the Pink One and the Blue One (who was now walking and talking) had a great big argument which ended up in a full blown tantrum and everyone going home grumpy and miserable.
Fortunately the last two years have been much better – as we’ve gone with my sister and her family and the cousins get on so well. We also go to Pizza Express, which my two always love!

8. Christmas Music/CD
As soon as it’s December it’s Christmas tunes in the car all the way! My Hubby has created some great play lists – I have three festive CDs in the car – love them all.
We also have A Christmas Carol on CD which is narrated by Patrick Stewart, which I absolutely adore.  Many moons ago, pre-children, my husband took me to see Patrick Stewart do his one man show of A Christmas Carol and it was amazing. I have never heard a theatre audience so quiet and mesmerised, considering there was just one man on stage, but he encapsulated every character so well – it was phenomenal!

What are your family traditions? I would love to hear about them!

I love Joe!

So cheekily a few weeks back I wrote an email inviting myself to Joe Browns, because you may have just about gathered I am a little bit of Joe Browns fan! Well a major Joe Browns fan to be totally truthful, I’m sure you’d never have guessed!

I suggested it could be quite nice to write about Joe Browns from the point of view of a mum.  The fact that Joe does clothes that are fabulous, funky and just make you feel so good but are also practical enough to wear when running around after my two small people. The worse they could do was say “No”.

Initially I didn’t hear back from Joe Browns and I was sad – so I tweeted them and through the power of the internet I was put in touch with the lovely Emily and she said it was a great idea! Yay! So then I needed to sort myself out for a trip to Leeds.

So I travelled to Leeds with my hubby bless him, it was meant to be my sister – but unfortunately she couldn’t make it as she was poorly with a bad back – so seriously have to thank the hubby for driving (I’m such a wuss when it comes to motorways!)

So it came the day when I got to visit Joe Browns, to say I was excited is a bit of an understatement, it was like I was meeting a celebrity! I could barely contain myself!

We entered the head office and met the delightful Emily, walking through the offices and to my joy the ethos and décor were exactly as the website/catalogue put across! A motorbike here, a drum kit there, bunting and fun things written on the walls! Loved it!

Generic Images

So Emily led us upstairs to a cool area that they use for photographing clothes and there was a rack full of coats and dresses just for me to try on! I was beside myself and couldn’t wait to try them on! Chatted with Emily for a bit and then she left us to it!

So here you go, the wonderful clothes I got to try on, I’ll let the photos do the majority of the talking, but I was like a kid in a sweet shop…

All for me!!!

1. Funky Funtime Fur Collar Jacket

I love the little details, such as the beautiful lining and the gorgeous buttons. Loving the fur collar for extra cosiness. I normally like a coat to cover my bum, but I would happily wear this jacket – great with some skinny jeans and knee high boots!

2. Statement Coat

Absolutely adore this coat from it’s beautiful floral lining, to the lovely colours and tulip shape. I own about five Joe Browns coats and would very happily add this to my collection any day! It really does make a statement. This was a favourite of the Hubby’s too!

3. Inspiring Coat

Great coat – like a purple version of the coat I am wearing this winter season which is red (which I am wearing in the photo, with Emily, at the end of this post)! Loving all the different panels, very inspired!

4. Highland Fling Jacket

Adored the lining of this jacket, the jacket itself was a size too large for me so was a bit boxy and I felt I should be jumping on to my horse! haha!

5. Freestyle Fleece Shawl

This was warm and cuddly.

6. Ultimate Longline Cardigan

I love, love, love this! I am hoping I have been a good enough girl and Father Christmas will bring it to me!!! A girl can hope can’t she!?!
It has gorgeous embellishments and was extremely comfy. A portable duvet you can look good in, and still able to keep up with my kids!
There’s a black version also available with slightly different embroidered embellishments, but the chocolate one has stolen my heart.

7. Luxurious Jacquard Coat

Trying to look super cool with my posing! Yet another gorgeous coat. It’s amazing how good a well made and fitted coat can make you feel better about yourself. I think this one has a sophisticated and elegant air about it.

8. Checked Biker Jacket

I liked the off centre concealed zip on this jacket. They’re so good with their detailing!

9. Joe’s Favourite Coat Black

I think my preference is definitely the purple one – just made it a little different!

I completely adore this dress – definitely another one on my wish list to Father Christmas.  The deep blue colour of the velvet and layering of the skirt, just gorgeous. It was extremely comfortable to wear as well. I didn’t want to take it off!

Got to check out the twirl factor!

13. Out of this World Dress
Out of this World Dress
Something a little different. I wasn’t sure how I felt about this dress on seeing it in the Joe Browns catalogue, I was little ambivalent. Once I tried it on, I was sold. I love the timeless Peter Pan collar, the incredibly detailed pattern, and the fact I feel you could wear this during the day comfortably or dress it up for an evening out! It really is a testament to its name.

14. Flattering Feminine Flocked Dress

A very easy to wear dress,  I already own a similar version in purple, which incidentally I wore for my mummy Christmas night out!

15. Christmas Cracker Dress

Something a little festive.  I really would love this dress to wear on Christmas day, comfy, cosy and cuddly.  Good length sleeves on me too, which is a great plus point!

16. Kalisi Dress

The colour of this dress is beautiful and the detailing very elegant, but I did personally feel I was in a negligée and think I would be too self conscious to wear it out! I do have quite long arms as well, so the sleeves were a bit short for me.

17. Butterfly Jacquard Dress

Considering how many photos I got my hubby to take of me in this dress, you may have guessed it was a personal favourite! I can’t decide between this one and the Baroque velour dress as to which takes the number one spot. Both were so utterly gorgeous. Think they would have noticed if I’d tried to sneak them out though! ;-P

Double twirl for the butterflies

I was extremely lucky to be able to have the chance to try all these wonderful clothes on, so I have to thank Joe Browns for having me and especially to the wonderful Emily for putting up with this mad blogger mummy!

With the wonderful Emily! This was in one of their meeting rooms – how awesome is that wall? Plus, I am of course, wearing one of my Joe Browns coats!

She also very kindly gave me a goodie bag, which I wasn’t expecting, so was a lovely surprise. I got a beautiful necklace, scarf and good old sweeties.

So beautiful!

Subsequently I have become a Joe Browns affiliate – so if you do want to buy some of their clothes, which I highly recommend, please come through my site!

I really do love the clothes, each piece is a statement, it’s more than trendy and following the latest fashion it’s about allowing your own personality to shine through. Timeless pieces that get noticed, I have had so many lovely comments about my Joe Browns coats (always a nice little ego boost). I believe they have something for everyone, whatever your shape and size. All the items I have make me feel good (and hopefully look good) when I am running around after my small people, so they are totally practical too! It’s a winning situation all round.

The party  dresses are there to make you feel glam on a (childfree) night out, when you want to bring out your inner yummy mummy! It’s amazing what a good outfit can do for your self esteem! I know they make me feel better – and watch out for the Joe Browns sales and outlet, you can grab yourself a bargain, and they cater for men too!

I just had the best time, striking my best model poses – it’s probably lucky for them I live 4 hours away from Leeds!!! 😛 xxx

Please like, share and comment on this post – it’s much appreciated!

Please, please, please (see I am not below begging!) come and take a look and share my site (I’m a stay at home mum, studying for a degree with the OU looking to make a little pocket money to pay for my kids after school activities (who knew a 3 year old and 6 year old could have so many!) – currently looking to set up my own data analysis business in the future, but in the mean time trying to utilise my already existing asset – why didn’t think of it before!?!)

Thank you in advance 🙂 xxx

Suddenly she’s turned six!!!

So on this day six years ago, at 6:52am our Pink One came into the world, weighing 7lb 3oz and changed our lives forever!

I cannot believe she is six years old already – seriously where has the time gone?

So this year, I’ve written a poem for my beautiful, intelligent and incredible daughter…

Now You Are Six

The morning you came you changed our lives forever.

Before you arrived life was good but now with you in the world it just got better

Our family of two become a wonderful three with this beautiful baby girl, half daddy, half me

Big blue eyes and a complete cutie pie, you are the apple of mine and daddy’s eye

We would watch you for hours, we were completely besotted. Each little facial expression and the way your arms swatted.

But how time flew and before we knew you were walking and talking how ‘independent’ you’d grown.

You made us laugh with your cheeky ways, the little pickle who brightens our days.

I’m not saying it’s all been easy, as we know it has not, but I wouldn’t change a thing, not a single part

There are times that we clash and mummy gets mad, but remember my child you are not bad

Everything we do and say is because we love you so much, your zest for life our hearts has touched

We gave you a brother, it’s so lovely, how you play so well with each other
You’re a wonderful big sister (most of the time) and to see you laugh together brings a tear of joy to my eye

Watching you grow is an honour and blessing, what you’ll be when you’re older has everyone guessing
We’re so lucky to have you, you’re a joy to behold and now my amazing daughter you are six years old!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY my darling Pink One!!! Love you loads!!!

Mummy 😊xxx

Make a snake!

So with half term looming I thought I would share one of the crafty activities I did with my kiddies (and hubby) during the summer holidays which may be something you can try with your kids over the week off from school!

I actually really enjoyed doing this with my two and didn’t find it too traumatic!

What you will need
5 loo rolls per snake (I think this is a good minimum – feel free to do more!)
Poster Paint
One pipe cleaner per snake (This is for the tongue, so we used pink, but the choice is completely up to the individual)
4 split pins per snake (more if you have additional loo rolls)
Googly Eyes
Pom Poms
Feathers
Or any other creative knick knacks that’s you may wish to put on your snake for decoration
If you want to add a rattle (which I did) you’ll need one additional loo roll and some rice!

I found loads of wonderful pins on Pinterest for this kind of craft – but didn’t find any others using split pins and I am pleased we did use them as it gives the snake more movement!

So to start with we covered the floor with newspaper and got all our poster paints out!1 Starting outSelected the colours we wanted and got to painting our loo rolls
2 Artists at workI think my Pink One would have happily painted loo rolls all day, my Blue One on the other got a little bored… ssshhh, don’t tell the kids I said that, it’s known as the ‘B’ word in our household! Though we managed to do the last two in a fun way with him, where he’d mixed the colours on his paper plates we were able to roll the loo rolls through the paint which he enjoyed doing, and it was nice and quick!

Top Left - Mine; Top Right - The Hubby's; Bottom Left - The Blue One's; Bottom Right - The Pink One's
Top Left – Mine; Top Right – The Hubby’s; Bottom Left – The Blue One’s; Bottom Right – The Pink One’s

Sharing all our artistic work!

That's a lot of loo rolls
That’s a lot of loo rolls

Whilst the loo rolls were drying I worked on the tongues and rattles…

Hissssss
Hissssss

All I did was cut my pipe cleaner in half (as it was quite long) then folded the pipe cleaner in half, then make an ‘M’ shape which would become the fork of the snake’s tongue, then pinch the whole thing together and twist! Tah-Dah – a snake’s tongue!

Rattle! Rattle!
Rattle! Rattle!

I can’t remember the exact measurements I used for the lengths of the cuts to make the rattle box – but I ‘squared’ the loo roll and made four cuts top and bottom.  I taped one end closed and put the rice in – I learnt for a good rattle less is more with the rice – and then taped it closed, ready to insert into the snakes tail!

Once the loo roles were dry I cut angled sections off each end, put a hole punch in the centre on each side (except the face, you only need a hole at one end) ready to join them together.

Ready to assemble!
Ready to assemble!

With the tails, I did a slit down each side, folded to make a triangle each side and then stuck them together to make a point – once dried I inserted and stuck in the rattles.

Here's one I made earlier, including additional embellishments...

Then using the split pins I put the snakes together, getting the kids to select what order they wanted the rolls to go! Then I stuck in the tongue.

The kids then chose what size eyes they wanted and then what additional embellishments they wanted to decorate their snakes with.

All the snakes together - the complete Family!
All the snakes together – the complete Family!

Voila – a family of articulated, embellished and rattling snakes!!!

Let me know if this post helped you make snakes with your kiddies and I’d love to see some photos of your loo roll snakes!

To be or not to be?

So on Friday 28th August I had tickets for me and my sister to see Hamlet.  I bought these tickets over a year ago on 11th August 2014 – so as you can imagine this was a highly anticipated day out!

The show wasn’t until 7.15pm but my sister and I were determined to make a day of it. It’s not very often that my sister and I get together without our children, husbands or working on getting something done.  So we met around noon at London Charing Cross and our lovely childfree day began (well actually mine started on the train where I thoroughly enjoyed reading my Book – Karen Rose’s Watch Your Back, if you’re interested!)

We then took a gentle mooch round London – with a visit to Tiger and the huge Paperchase, where we stopped and had a beverage, charged our phones and generally nattered without interruptions of “Muuuummmm!” every five seconds, it was heavenly.

I used the facilities in there and it was like stepping into a nightclub – the décor was black and the lighting was Blue or UV all it was missing was the boom boom of the music!!! Slightly bizarre!

I took my Digital SLR with me and manage to take a few photos around town too, which was great.

Sample of my photos
Sample of my photos
and some more because I couldn't choose!
and some more because I couldn’t choose!

Then we made our way over to the Barbican – we went by bus. Once there we purchased some nibbles in Waitrose, with my weird and wonderful eating restrictions I went for Tyrell’s vegetable crisps and some gluten, lactose and gelatine free cola bottles (they are quite yummy!). Then it was off to the Barbican Centre.

Now what this post is really about – and that is Hamlet starring the rather lovely Benedict Cumberbatch.  I joked to everyone that my sister and I were going as we were being educational and cultural and nothing to do with Benedict Cumberbatch which was obviously a big fat lie and I bought these tickets because it was starring him, but having now watched the play – it is so much more than Benedict Cumberbatch, I actually was educated, Hamlet wasn’t one of the Shakespeare plays I studied at school, and now thanks to last night I know the story of Hamlet.  The entire cast were amazing, the stage was awe inspiring and the whole production was phenomenal! (Not to mention I spotted Stephen Fry in the audience!!!)

A synopsis of Hamlet as I understand it, this is the first time I have seen it! (I suppose a Spoiler – so don’t read if you don’t want to know!)
It starts two months after the death of Hamlet’s father, King of Denmark, and Hamlet is to attend the wedding of his mother (Gertrude) and his uncle (Claudius), the brother of his father. His uncle is now the new King. The Queen and King request (order) that Hamlet not return to university. He is none too pleased but does as he is asked!

Two of the palace guards come to Hamlet and Horatio (Hamlet’s friend) to report that they’ve seen a spectre that appears to be the ghost of the dead king. So that night Hamlet joins them and sees that it is his father. He follows the ghost, who eventually speaks to tell Hamlet that he was murdered by none other than his brother Claudius – Hamlet’s uncle the new King! He wants Hamlet to avenge his death and kill Claudius, and not to forget him.

In the meantime, Ophelia, the object of Hamlet’s affections, has been told by her brother Laertes to not believe Hamlet’s professions of love.  She also has a scene with her father, Polonius, who also tells her to make herself less available to Hamlet.

Hamlet, after the revelation of murder by his ghost father which he obviously keeps quiet, seems to his family to have lost his mind/be in a deep depression, which they put down to the death of his father.
Ophelia goes to her father, Polonius, saying Hamlet has come to her in a state, giving her a letter proclaiming his love. Which Polonius takes to Claudius and Gertrude, to basically say that Hamlet has gone mad because of his unreturned love for Ophelia.

Claudius and Polonius plan to have Ophelia talk with Hamlet, whilst they hide but listen in. Which Hamlet figures out and goes off angrily.

Gertrude and Claudius arrange for Hamlet’s friends, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, to try and lift his spirits.

Some actor’s come to the palace to put on a play – in which Hamlet requests they insert an additional scene, which he had written to try and trigger a reaction from his Uncle, showing his guilt for the crime – which is exactly what he does.

Gertrude was speaking with Polonius, who hides when Hamlet comes in where Gertrude confronts her son demanding to know what he was thinking. Where he starts to speak with her and hears a noise believing it to be Claudius he goes to Polonius’ hiding place and takes tragic action and stabs Polonius to death.

Aghast at his actions – he continues to describe the situation to his mother, to keep herself away from Claudius, she is very distressed.  Hamlet then removes Polonius’ body.

Claudius comes in to find Gertrude and asks her what has happened, and she says what Hamlet has done.
The palace then search for Hamlet and capture him and he is bought before his uncle. Who banishes him to England – rather than kill him, for the sake of his mother.

This was the end of the first part.

In the second part, Hamlet manages to escape the boat he is on to England, when they are set upon by ‘pirate like’ people, but who actually turn out to be good people and bring Hamlet back to Denmark, and he puts this all in a letter to Horatio, along with other letters that he wants sent onwards to the King (Claudius)

The King receives his letter where Hamlet has written that he is returning.

In the meantime we see Ophelia who has lost her mind with the grief at the death of her father, Laertes also returns initially blaming the King for his father’s death.

Claudius tells Laertes what actually happened to his father, that Hamlet killed him, and traumatised by the effect of the death on his sister he agrees to a plan to kill Hamlet with Claudius.

Ophelia, so overcome with grief takes her own life, by drowning herself in a lake.  Hamlet and Horatio come across the gravedigger, unaware the grave is for Ophelia, and this is where we have the ‘Alas, Yorick, I knew him well’ speech, and then hiding in the shadows they realise who is being buried and how sorrowful Laertes is.

Hamlet reveals himself, eventually it all results in a fencing match between him and Laertes. Three touches and you’re the winner. What Hamlet is unaware of is that the rapier Laertes is using is laced with poison as is the goblet of wine the King keeps offering him.  Laertes manages to stab Hamlet with the poison rapier but Laertes is then stabbed with the same rapier by Hamlet. Hamlet’s mother drinks some of the poison wine and collapses down dead. Laertes, knowing that he is dying, tells Hamlet of the plan with the King, so Hamlet manages to stab him and make him drink the wine before he succumbs to the poison. So Hamlet, Laertes, Claudius and Gertrude all die – leaving just Horatio to explain the story of what has happened to the royal family and Fortinbras returns to assume the throne.

Apologies if any of this is in the wrong order, or slightly incorrect, as I have only seen the show once, but quite nice to get it down as I understand it.

If you get the opportunity to see this production go for it, it’s absolutely amazing! I loved it.

Afterwards we did wait by the stage door to see if we could manage to get a glimpse of Benedict – I also got a high five from Matthew Steer who plays Rosencrantz. I did get an extremely blurry, distance photo of Mr Cumberbatch.

I promise the blurry man in the white shirt is Benedict Cumberbatch!!!

As we started our walk to make our way home my sister and I met the lovely Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Laertes) and spoke and had our photo with him.  My sister likes listening to the audio stories, the Peter Grant series by Ben Aaronovitch, that Kobna narrates. He was very charming and made for pleasant end to our Barbican experience.

John Lewis Photography Event – #FindYourSummer

So Wednesday evening I was lucky enough to find myself on the Roof Terrace of John Lewis on London’s Oxford Street – where it had fortunately stopped raining – taking part in their Photography Event – #FindYourSummer – where there were representatives from Canon, Sony, Olympus and Panasonic (I’m a Nikon girl myself, a little sad that they weren’t there!).  I was there along with Helen of Hels Bels, got to meet the delightful Emily Leary from A Mummy Too, and also the very sweet Hannah from Hannah in the House – amongst others!

Being only my second proper blogger event, and being somewhat excited by photography (I love taking photos, I take a lot! As you’ll see from this previous post found Here) I was super stoked to be at this event.  There were some workshops to choose from and also lovely nibbles and food provided by Rossopomodoro.

Motion Picture
I went for the Motion Picture workshop and had a lot of fun hula hooping, jumping and generally being silly with Helen and Emily to show the capability of Panasonic’s 4K technology (taking 30 frames every second) – then being able to grab an 8MB JPEG still of any section of the video that you like! Christine was an fab representative from Panasonic – very open and easy to chat to.  Thoroughly enjoyed this workshop! Also got to go home with an 8GB memory card and holder! Result!

Gain Some Perspective
Workshop led by Barry from Canon – who gave a good talk about the Canon cameras – showing the touch screen feature, even being able to take the photo from touching the screen – and showing how you can get away from using the view finder enabling you to take photos from different angles and perspectives – especially on flat lays. Also discussed being able to link a Canon camera to your iPad or iPhone, which was rather cool.  Good fun and informative!

Olympus handed out a goody bag, the best bits were the re-useable bag itself, a mug and a 2GB USB key! Can never have enough storage!!!

Had so much fun – a very well organised event by John Lewis and would love to attend other events they put on!

Where did June go?

Wow, I cannot believe it is the final day of Juneathon and I have managed to write a post (how ever brief) everyday for 30 days! Unfortunately I haven’t logged all the activity in Running Free Online as yet… *sigh*

So today I have been on my feet quite a bit, I was involved in doing a talk for the sixth formers at my old school that I left in *incomprehensible due to a loud noise* – it was great to go back and see some of my old teachers and to try and impress on the sixth formers that it doesn’t matter if you don’t know what you want to do yet.  Look at me, I am old (in the eyes of an 18 year old) and I have gone back to study and I am doing a degree!

Then this evening Helen and I decided to go for gentle walk – far too warm to run, well for me it was!

Walk with Helen - bumped into another friend too and stood still for a little bit!

I also did my final 30 toe touches, 30 sit and reaches and 30 sit ups/tummy crunches! Yay!!!

Hope everyone else had a successful Juneathon!
