Be Careful What You Say

Anxiety is always there.
It doesn’t solely define who you are,
but it will always be a part of who you are.
You learn to cope.
You learn to deal with it.
You realise you are not alone.
You connect with people.
You smile.
You laugh.
You exercise.
You eat well.
You feel happy.
You feel joy.
You suddenly start to believe you won’t feel like THAT again.
Life seems so much better.

Then all it takes is a couple of words, or one small situation, to break everything down – and you feel like you are falling all the way back down that bottomless black hole and you just cannot shake it.

You feel broken.
You feel sad.
You hurt.
You cry.
You sob.
You scream.
You say ‘It’s not fair’.
You feel numb.
You feel emotionless.
You feel nothing.
You start to believe that maybe it is ‘your fault’.
You don’t want to do anything.
You relive it over and over and over again in your mind.
You go round and round in circles, on that nightmare merry-go-round.
You feel exhausted.
You feel drained.
You feel unlikeable.
You feel alone and abandoned.

Anxiety seriously sucks.

It’s so hard, but…
You have to take the deepest breath.
You have to find that person you can sit in silence with.
You have to find that person you can talk to who will listen even if they don’t get it.
You have to listen to music, it is food for the soul.
You have to sing, shout, scream the lyrics and let it all out.
You have to realise, that even though it’s not your fault you’ll have to be the bigger person and know they won’t apologise and accept that.
You have to realise other people do not know what damage they can do with their tongues, but you can be careful what you say.
You have to realise people do not think what other battles people are facing, even if it’s with their own mind and thoughts.
You have to realise that they believe they are right even if they’re in the wrong.
You have to not care about it so much.
You have to not let it destroy you.

As bloody hard as it is, I truly know it’s so much easier to say these things than do them.
As difficult as every day is living with your own thoughts and feelings, you are worth it and you will be stronger for it. The pain will lessen over time.

You are awesome and you will survive!
Life will get better again

Trust me – I’ve been there too!
Big hugs x

I feel the words in this Nickelback song are so poignant, especially for those of us who battle with these thoughts/feeling/emotions on a daily basis…

Nickelback – Lullaby

Well, I know the feeling
Of finding yourself stuck out on the ledge
And there ain’t no healing
From cutting yourself with the jagged edge
I’m telling you that, it’s never that bad
Take it from someone who’s been where you’re at
Laid out on the floor
And you’re not sure you can take this anymore
So just give it one more try to a lullaby
And turn this up on the radio
If you can hear me now
I’m reaching out
To let you know that you’re not alone
And if you can’t tell, I’m scared as hell
‘Cause I can’t get you on the telephone
So just close your eyes
Oh, honey here comes a lullaby
Your very own lullaby
Please let me take you
Out of the darkness and into the light
‘Cause I have faith in you
That you’re gonna make it through another night
Stop thinking about the easy way out
There’s no need to go and blow the candle out
Because you’re not done
You’re far too young
And the best is yet to comeSo just give it one more try to a lullaby
And turn this up on the radio
If you can hear me now
I’m reaching out
To let you know that you’re not alone
And if you can’t tell, I’m scared as hell
‘Cause I can’t get you on the telephone
So just close your eyes
Oh, honey here comes a lullaby
Your very own lullabyWell, everybody’s hit the bottom
Everybody’s been forgotten
When everybody’s tired of being alone
Yeah, everybody’s been abandoned
And left a little empty handed
So if you’re out there barely hanging on…Just give it one more try to a lullaby
And turn this up on the radio
If you can hear me now
I’m reaching out
To let you know that you’re not alone
And if you can’t tell, I’m scared as hell
‘Cause I can’t get you on the telephone
So just close your eyes
Oh, honey here comes a lullaby
Your very own lullaby
Oh, honey here comes a lullaby
Your very own lullaby

What are your coping mechanisms to help get you back to a relative sense of normality? Mine is definitely music (and a good cry), singing along and identifying with the lyrics.  Feel free to share your thoughts and feelings in the comments below or contact me via any of my social media accounts. We are in this together and we can help support each other! 🙂 x

  1. Perfect. It’s so hard to understand unless you have been there and really helps reading others say what’s in your head. I hate the name anxiety as it doesn’t fit it and makes people think we are just silly and anxious. Thank you for sharing x

    • You are more than welcome. I know what you mean – it’s so much deeper than a ‘bit worried’ and ‘anxious’ – it cuts to the core and it hurts!
Don’t ever feel silly (though I constantly worry about that too) you are not alone in this and I completely understand how you feel. Thank you so much for commenting – it feels so worthwhile now! Big hugs xxx
